Welcome to Steamtown Church

New here? Welcome! We realize that looking for a church can be kind of scary. After all, we've all known some weird religious people. We want to make seeking God as easy as possible. So the following is intended to give you an idea of what our church is all about. So what should you expect at Steamtown Church?
What does Sunday morning lo
ok like?
We Gather each Sunday morning at 10:30 to celebrate what Jesus has done for us and learn more about him (Although many of us get there early to hang out and drink coffee!). Come as you are. There are no perfect people at Steamtown Church. If you have some issues, you’ll fit right in. Our church isn’t about how good we are, but about our common experience of what God has done for us. We'll spend about an hour and a half, expressing our faith through songs, listening to the Bible taught, and building relationships with one another.
What if I’m not used to going to church?
Have you given up on church but not on God? Steamtown Church is designed for you. We have done our best to be a church where you can build relationships with others who are seeking God as you are encouraged to explore the the spiritual side of life. You’ll be given freedom to search and not feel condemned for asking honest questions. If you’re not sure where God fits in but want to investigate, you’ll love Steamtown. Questions are encouraged. We work hard to create an environment that welcomes the doubter, the disillusioned, and the disconnected. We aren't a group of people who have everything together, but we have found hope in the person and work of Jesus.
What about the kids?
Steamtown Church is a family-friendly church. We believe that children are a gift from God. Our experienced and caring children’s leaders have created an awesome children’s program that your kids will want to be a part of week after week. Children K-6th grade get to play a part in “Electric City Studios.” They learn about the Bible as they act out Bible stories. Skits, games, prizes, and tons of fun are all a part of Electric City Studios. Our staff also provides a safe and secure nursery for your infants and toddlers 0-3 yrs. Children can be signed in beginning at 10:15 in the children’s area located on the first floor through the lobby.

Will I connect with “church people”?
Steamtown Church It’s an easy place to get connected. We have people from every age group and social bracket. Our diversity doesn’t hold us back from relationship though, because we have common ground in our relationship with Jesus. He has given us so much that we’re excited about giving back to others. We want to share with you and help you on your journey. We’re also pretty laid back at Steamtown. We try not to have a "church culture." Most of us wear the same clothes on Sunday that we wear around town Monday through Friday. We avoid “Christian jargon” in our gatherings. We do this because we want to be authentic and we desire to clearly communicate the power of Jesus to everyone we meet. Our faith, including how we dress, talk, and live isn’t reserved for one day a week or other Christians. It’s a 24/7 journey lived in the real world.
What will the teaching be like?
We believe the Bible has the answers for people in today’s troubled world. If the Bible seems boring and irrelevant to you, expect to be surprised. At Steamtown, you’ll hear down to earth, understandable Sunday messages that connect with you where you live. You’ll discover the Bible is exciting, usually challenging, and always applicable to everyday life.

What will the worship be like?
Knowing God is a serious endeavor but that doesn't mean we can't have fun. We're convinced that God is exciting, and we try to stay interesting too. We celebrate Jesus through creativity, art, and music. Our music is mostly contemporary, but you might find something contemplative or even folksy. We’ve been known to use lots of multimedia and some pretty off the wall stories and illustrations. At Steamtown, you can expect the unexpected. We hope that you’ll not only enjoy yourself, but be challenged, inspired, and walk away with a bigger picture of God.
What about students?
Each week our students get together to have fun, learn about navigating life, and build relationships. It’s a place where teens can have a great time while learning values, character, and responsibility. Experienced youth leaders have a creative, energetic program designed to challenge, excite and give direction. Our youth take part in social and recreational activities, community service, and Bible studies focusing on relevant teen issues. Busy lives and endless commitments can pull a family in many directions. Steamtown will help you strengthen your marriage, develop parenting skills, and bring family members together through the love of Christ. One of our primary goals is building strong family units.
How does Steamtown give back?
Steamtown Church cares about Scranton. We invest in our City by serving its leaders, supporting its families, and sponsoring community-wide functions which show God’s love in practical ways. We believe that all change starts with the spiritual, but are committed to many serving our city in diverse and creative ways. Check out the calendar to see what we've been doing or what's coming up. Join us as we seek to make a difference in Scranton through community acts of kindness, assisting those in need, and mentoring young leaders.
What happens outside of the Sunday morning gathering?
We firmly believe that church isn’t a once-a-week event that happens on a Sunday. “Church” is a community of people who follows Jesus and our Sunday Gatherings are just one thing we do. We believe that living a Godward life in our culture is tough and isn’t meant to be done in isolation. So we join together in smaller groups called house churches to build relationships and encourage one another as we try to live out our faith. These interactive small groups are a time for personal growth, sharing and caring. No expectations for perfection–just real people doing life together. You can also check out the What We Do section of the website for a sampling of some of the other things going on at Steamtown.
