Welcome to Steamtown Church!
Thank you for taking the time to be our guest this morning. As our guest, we ultimately desire one thing, to clearly communicate to you & your family the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus, being God, died for the penalty of our sin, was buried, and rose from the grave three days later!
So please allow me to ask, a scale of 1-10, how sure are you that you’re going to heaven?
If it’s anything less than a 10, our desire is that you would learn to fully trust in Jesus, apart from works, to be the Savior from your sins, assuring you eternal life with God.
If you would like to learn more concerning the assurance of eternal life, I want to personally encourage you to have a coffee with one of the pastors or talk to someone at the welcome booth or consider signing up for our next Christianity 101 class, which is our starting point at Steamtown Church. If you would like to learn more about Steamtown Church, please consider attending our next membership class.
If you have any questions or concerns, our host team is more than willing to assist you at the welcome center.
Thank you & God bless!
As part of God’s Church,
Steamtown Church is on mission to ensure that every man, woman, & child have repeated opportunities to hear and see the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Philosophy of Ministry
Yes, this is a big mission…some would say it’s impossible. Thankfully, we serve a God who makes all things possible. You may be asking how we plan to accomplish the mission. “Remember, Relate, Renovate” sums it up. The graphic below describes the three things we focus on as a church:
A key part of following Jesus is remembering His sacrifice continually. In order to keep Jesus at the forefront of our minds and hearts we gather weekly to collectively worship God through music, giving, learning from His Word the Bible, and remembering the Lord’s supper.
We remember His love, His grace, and His sovereignty as one body each weekend to help us remember Him throughout the week.
This is also, for many, their introduction to Steamtown Church. So, if you’re deciding on your next step into Steamtown, our Christianity 101 class or our Membership Class is a good place to start.
Relate to Others
You can’t do it alone. The early church met together daily for a reason. We believe that encouraging relationships with others who are experiencing their own journeys of faith are vital to your faith. Our house churches meet that need. Steamtown Church, as a whole, is a gathering of the many house churches that meet weekly in homes throughout the greater Scranton area. Each one provides an atmosphere that will help you grow in your understanding of God and then apply what you learn.
We have many house churches that meet all throughout the greater Scranton area. Most likely there is one close to you.
Renovate the Church
Whatever God is going to do in this world, He is going to do through His people – the Church. We have a dream that God’s Spirit will move in the hearts of the people of Steamtown Church and raise up a generation that will follow Him wholeheartedly right here in Scranton and beyond. We know that our mission is impossible to fulfill if our one and only focus is the growth of Steamtown Church. That’s why our focus is not on us….but on our mission. Through sharing your grace stories, outreach events, church planting, church partnering, missions, and leadership formation, we believe that God’s renovation of hearts will thrive in our city and throughout the world. Our mission is attainable if the church simply becomes what God intended it to be.
As a result of faith in Jesus, we see Three Goals that should be present in your life as you move forward. These aren’t rituals or things to make us more religious; instead, these Goals put us into a position to be changed by God.
“Not ashamed of the gospel” – Romans 1:16
God sacrificed His Son so that we can be forgiven from our sins and spend eternity with Him. Why would we be ashamed of that message? God wants you to tell as many people as you can about Jesus.
“Search the scriptures daily” – Acts 17:11
Spend time with God as often as possible. It is a privilege for us to read His Word and pray every day.
“Not ignorant about our spiritual gifts” – 1 Corinthians 12:1
Every Christian has a spiritual gift. That gift was given to us so that we would serve one another and the world. We desire for you to understand your gifts and serve others.
