Matt Miller

Family: I am the son of Paul and Vickie Miller. I am the oldest of four children. I am 27. Mary is 26. Mark is 19. William is 16. I recently started my family on July 31, upon marrying the wonderful Rachel.

Hometown: Ashland, Ohio

Education and Experience: I have my bachelors of science in Bible from Baptist Bible College ’05. I helped plant Steamtown Church in 2008.

Vision for position: As Steamtown Church’s Teaching Pastor, my vision for the people of our community is that they are excited about personal and group Bible study, and are steadily growing in their knowledge of the Scripture. I hope to help people see the Bible not as confusing, outdated, or intimidating, but meaningful, relevant, and alive.

What brought you to Steamtown: Steamtown is a church in the city that cares about the city. In a word, Steamtown is on a mission to save Scranton.  I love Scranton. I love God. It was a no brainer. Besides, it’s great going into ministry with your friends.

Favorite Movie: It’s impossible to pin down one. But I will only mention one. “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

On your iPod:  I like old 40’s and 50’s country, anything folky. I also listen to a lot of ‘90’s and 00’s alternative rock or “indie”.  My musical tastes are not limited to this. I like other things, here or there. But this description sums it up well.

Favorite Book other than the Bible: Again, so many. I will actually mention two (in no particular order).  “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck and “Confessions” by Augustine of Hippo.

Hobbies/Interests: Hanging out with Rachel, reading, writing, listening to music, sports. If I am found doing any of these things, it is almost always accompanied by coffee.

Favorite Thing About Scranton: Scranton is small enough to know everybody, but big enough to find something interesting to do.
